The original idea here was to get a photograph of the Big Dipper behind this rock carving at Alibates National Monument
but typical Panhandle weather changed before the photo could develop.
This image is actually parts of two photographs. In order to communicate the
total experience, and since my camera lens
didn't have a wide enough angle, I turned the sky about forty five degrees to the
left in Photoshop. In reality the turtle carving faces north and the lightning was
over Sanford back to the northeast.
The photo was taken with a Nikon N80, a 19-35 wide angle zoom lens and a blue filter to balance the colors. A setting of f/16 and 30 seconds was used. Film was standard ISO 800 by Kodak.
